Better Bookmark is a Chrome extension that transforms your new tab page into a powerful bookmark management interface. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our practices.

Permissions Explained

Better Bookmark requires certain browser permissions to function. Here's exactly why each permission is needed:

`bookmarks` Permission

Required to read, create, update, delete, and organize your bookmarks. This is the core functionality of the extension — displaying your bookmarks in grid/list views, enabling folder navigation, and providing search capabilities. Your bookmark data is only accessed locally and never transmitted externally.

`storage` Permission

Required to save your preferences locally within Chrome's storage. This includes your theme selection (dark/light mode), language settings, view mode preference (grid/list), custom tags, tag-bookmark mappings, and other personalization options. All data is stored locally in your browser and is never sent to any external server.

`favicon` Permission

Required to display website icons (favicons) next to each bookmark. This provides visual recognition and helps you quickly identify your saved sites in both grid and list views. Favicons are retrieved from Chrome's local cache.

`history` Permission

Required to identify your recently visited and most frequently used bookmarks. The extension cross-references your browsing history with your saved bookmarks to surface "Recent" and "Most Used" bookmarks, helping you access your favorite sites faster. This processing happens entirely within your browser — no browsing history is ever collected or transmitted.

Data Storage

All data used by Better Bookmark is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage APIs:

User Preferences: Theme, language, view mode settings
Custom Tags: Tag names, colors, and bookmark-tag associations
UI State: Last opened folder, expanded folders, view preferences

💡 Note: You can clear all extension data at any time by removing the extension from Chrome. No residual data will remain on any external servers because none was ever transmitted.

Third-Party Services

Better Bookmark does not use any third-party services, analytics platforms, or external APIs. The extension operates completely offline after installation.

Children's Privacy

Better Bookmark does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under 13 years of age. The extension is safe for users of all ages.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

Your Rights

Since we do not collect any personal data, there is no personal information to access, modify, or delete from our end. All your data remains under your complete control within your browser.
